Donor sperm

Donor sperm may be used for insemination (IUI) or used for IVF/ICSI treatments for various reasons/ conditions.

Indications for Donor Sperm treatment
  • Single women and same sex lesbian couples.
  • Men who cannot produce sperm due to various conditions / reasons (Azoospermia)
  • Men who may have serious genetic conditions and want to avoid passing on to their offspring may also choose to go down the route of donor sperm usage.

Donor Egg

Donor Egg treatment may be needed for various conditions / reasons.

Indications for Donor Egg treatment
  • Women who have Premature Ovarian Failure (POF).
  • Women who produce very few eggs, very poor quality eggs or no eggs.  
  • Women who produce eggs which are genetically abnormal.

Note: Change in the UK Law from 2005 onwards means that there will be no anonymity. This has caused a huge shortage of donor eggs, sperms in the UK.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy is when one woman (the surrogate host) is to bear a child for another woman or a couple (the commissioning couple).

Counselling Support

SA Fertility offers the services of a specialist fertility counsellor before, during and after the fertility treatments. Treatments such as Donor Sperm and Donor Eggs legally require undergoing counselling according to the HFEA code of practice.
