Ultrasound & Gynaecology Scans

Ultrasound Scan

An ultrasound scan is a painless test that uses sound waves to create images of organs and structures inside your body. It is a very commonly used test. As it uses sound waves and not radiation, it is thought to be harmless.

If a woman's pelvic organs are under examination;

Transvaginal scan (TVS) with an empty bladder provides a better picture. A small probe/scanner is gently inserted into the vagina up to the cervix to get the best image. This should not cause more than a slight discomfort.

Transabdominal (TAS) examination can also be performed with a full bladder when a small probe/scanner used externally on the skin.

At SA Fertility TVS / TAS is offered for various conditions;
