Biography:
Miss Akbar is a Consultant Gynaecologist, Obstetrician and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine / Assisted Conception.

Miss Akbar qualified for her medical degree in 1984. She was admitted as a full member of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 2000 and became qualified as a Consultant Gynaecologist in 2005.

Miss Akbar started as a consultant in IVF/ assisted conception / obstetrics and gynaecology at King’s College Hospital London and subsequently moved to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, where she is now based.

Miss Akbar has been the HFEA Person Responsible and Fertility Lead Clinician at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital since 2008.

Miss Akbar is very much involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. She is a Royal College tutor and also a preceptor for the Royal College advanced training modules in subfertility and reproductive endocrinology, at Luton & Dunstable Hospital. She has received a best tutor award twice from UCL medical school.

Miss Akbar trained in London, in a number of London teaching Hospitals, including Guys and St Thomas, St Georges, King’s College, Bart’s and the London Hospital and carried out extensive research in the field of fertility medicine. During her training she also attended the London South Bank University as a part-time student and completed an MSc in ultrasound scanning and diploma in counselling skills.

Miss Akbar specialises in assisted conception techniques, fertility preserving keyhole surgeries, endometriosis and all aspects of fertility treatments. She also specialises in ultrasound scanning and counselling.

Miss Akbar has special interest in male factor subfertility, implantation failure, poly cystic ovaries/PCOS,Fibroids / blood less myomectomies, adolescent gynaecology.

Miss Akbar is fluent in several languages and believes this benefits her patients by offering holistic care to those from different ethnic backgrounds.

Biography:
Trained as a Nurse at St Bartholomews, London then worked at UCH London in Gynaecology. Following this  15 years experience as an IVF nurse at Hammersmith IVF unit, The Bridge Centre (London), Lister Fertility Clinic (London), Spire Harpenden Hospital Satellite IVF Unit and Luton and Dunstable Hospital Fertility Unit.
